※I went to his office at nine o' clock，but he was absent.

※Tom is absent in class.

※These words are absent from that dictionary.

※He absented from the meeting.

1.absent 通常指出席理应到场的活动，指某人不在家或办公室时，习惯上用 not at home，away from home，not in 等词语。例如：

I went to his office at nine o'clock，but he wasn't in.我9点钟去他办公室，但他不在。

2.absent 后习惯接介词 from，不接 at，in 等。例如：

Tom is absent from class.汤姆今天没来上课。

〖注〗说到不会活动的东西“缺少”、“不在”时，absent后可接in。例如：

These words are absent in that dictionary.在那本词典里没有这些词。
