英国诗人。约1569年生于约克郡。父为主教。1586年进牛津大学学习。1591年志愿参加埃塞克斯伯爵的远征队赴诺曼底作战，回国后发表了他最著名的爱情诗集《巴特诺菲尔与巴特诺菲》 (Parthenophil and Parthenophe)(1593)。还写有悲剧《魔鬼的契约》 (The Devil′s Charter)(1607)和十四行诗集。1609年12月在伦敦逝世。
