玉不琢,不成器;人不学,不知义。
· It takes chiselling to make jade into valuable things. A man would be ignorant of righteousness if he refused to learn.
· Without carving,a piece of jade cannot be turned into a useful object. Without learning,a man cannot know what righteousness is.
· Jade must be carved and polished before it becomes an ornament; a man must be educated before he understands righteousness.
